Borders Refugees Open Their Own Store

It was even featured in Shelf Awareness, the book lovers newsletter that goes out once a day. We're starting to get shipments of product in, and cleaning/ setting up the store is hard work but very rewarding.

It's Official!

We have signed the lease! We will be opening as Inklings - Books and Things no later than November 1st! We hope to open the weekend before, on Oct 29th if we can get everything together by then.

Thank you for all of your support, and please continue to leave comments with thoughts on things you would like to see in the new store. We couldn't have gotten here without all of you, and I really can't thank you enough.

Paper Wings - Books and Things   or   Inklings - Books and Things

What's in a Name?

Hello everyone! We wanted to check in and let you know what's been going on the past few weeks, and to thank you all for being so loyal and eager throughout this process--the response from awesome customers like you is what keeps us going and determined to see this through.

We've all been hard at work, and things have definitely moved along from when we first mentioned this project. Scheming, negotiating, having planning meetings, software demo-ing, and general shenanigans have been keeping us a little more crazy than usual.

While nothing's been signed yet, we are getting very close now. We are so close, in fact, that we really need to decide on a name for our store. Here's a list of some of the suggestions we've gotten, let us know what you think...

The Corner Bookstore (though this is one of the most often used names)
Play Pages (Pages and Play, Pages of Play...)
Novel Novelties (or Novels & Novelties)

X Marks the Plot
Books and Thinker Things (an homage to our potential parent store)
The Ink Story (or Ink Story Books & Toys, The Ink Story is an anagram of Thinker Toys)

Greetings and Salutations

Hello and Welcome!

Here you will find updates and information concerning the ongoing efforts by the employees of Borders Express in Capitola to open an independent bookstore in or around their current location. Here is the situation so far:

Dorothy, the current store manager, is pairing up with the owner of a small independent toy company to open an independent book store which would also carry a selection of quality toys. 

We are currently in negotiations for the space that Borders occupied in the mall. We are also looking into other options in the area.

If you would like to show your support for this project you can help! We need a name for the store (Book Portal is our working title). Please leave your suggestion in the comments, and we'd love to hear any other suggestions on sections to stock or things you'd like to see. If you have any questions you can leave those in comments as well and we will try to answer them in future posts.
