Greetings and Salutations

Hello and Welcome!

Here you will find updates and information concerning the ongoing efforts by the employees of Borders Express in Capitola to open an independent bookstore in or around their current location. Here is the situation so far:

Dorothy, the current store manager, is pairing up with the owner of a small independent toy company to open an independent book store which would also carry a selection of quality toys.

We are currently in negotiations for the space that Borders occupied in the mall. We are also looking into other options in the area.

If you would like to show your support for this project you can help! We need a name for the store (Book Portal is our working title). Please leave your suggestion in the comments, and we'd love to hear any other suggestions on sections to stock or things you'd like to see. If you have any questions you can leave those in comments as well and we will try to answer them in future posts.

Thanks for all your support, keep checking back for updates!

Hi Dorothy:
Good luck with your endevor. I sure don't want to lose you as my go to book gal. You've been invaluable to me in helping find just the right books.
I'll try to think up some names in the coming weeks for suggestions. In the meantime, if I can do anything to help you let me know.
Regards,
Carolyn

If other options in the area include a space in Brown Ranch, would they let you call it Brown Ranch Books? (It would also have the clever shortening of "BRB" -- haha, I am so funny...)
I'd definitely like to see the Fiction, SciFi, and YA sections be healthily stocked as they are my favorite, but I also know that the Romance section is an important part of your returning customer base -- so that should probably stick around as well. =)
I look forward to a new incarnation, and good luck!

So Dorothy, I'm sorry if this pains you but because your name is Dorothy, and I'm reading a Gregory MacGuire book right now, I kinda want you to name your store "Gale Books." I'm not sure that makes sense to anyone but me though. Also if you do get to keep the location I like "The Corner Store" or "The Corner [Book] Store." :P

I hope you guys are able to stick around. I spend hours in your store talking to all the employees (you're all amazing!) and many of the customers. On more than one occasion I've had a book suggested to me that I picked up and really enjoyed reading, which I would never have even thought of reading left on my own. Thank you guys so much! I look forward to checking out the new place and having it be my new book shop!
Good Luck!
Jessica

Cornerstone Books?

Keystone Books and Toys? (Corner stone, key stone, I don't know) Keys are always a cool motif.

I personally think "Dorothy's Books and Toys" or "Monroe Books" would be cool.

Also "Books and Thinker Things" made me giggle.

If the selection only included books I would say "Lazy Day Books" would be a good name but "Lazy Day Books and Toys" doesn't exactly have the same ring to it in my mind at least.

What a spectacular idea! If there is anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask! I've been playing with name ideas....what about
Play Pages
Little Drummer Books
The Shelf (suggesting both a bookshelf and a toyshelf)
Anyway, once you open I will never order or buy books from anyone else.
Are you considering specializing in kids, YA, and parenting to go along with the toys? Or is it just to be a general bookstore with toys?

How about "Books Beyond Borders" for your new name?

Thank you all for your support and feedback!

We are still in lease negotiations, so there are no new updates yet, but we will post something as soon as we know more.

We will continue to have a good YA section, and are going to try to expand upon our educational resources for parents and teachers alike. We're still going to have a full selection of book categories, but our toy selection will be vastly improved.

Thanks again, and keep the suggestions coming!

Dorothy

As far as a store name is concerned I like something with a cozy feeling to it. Something that is inviting and excites people to get lost in a good book. Like "Something" Corner or "Something-something" Nook. I'm digging the corner/nook part. hahaha. If I think of something else, I will re-comment.

All I have got to say is that this whole kindle thing is freaking me out. I don't want to read things off of a screen or carry a bunch of books on a single device. I want to turn pages tangibly. Is that so much to ask? HA!

Okay, enough blabbing. Good luck! Please keep us posted!
